Information from Billi Ann Caya on Cheer
1. CONCUSSION COURSE. All certified coaches must now take the National Federation Concussion course. This course is on the www.nfhs.org website. It is free of charge, and only takes about 20 minutes to complete. With the renewed concern of concussions, it is good to stay updated with this issue. When you go to the site, if you have never been there, you must create an account--which is also free--and then log in to the course. Once you have completed it, you can print off a completion, and send it in with your certification for the 2011-12 year.
2. RULES TEST. Starting this year, all certified coaches must take the online Spirit Rules test. This will not be available until after July 15th, and I will notify you when it is ready to go. It will be on the www.northdakotacheer.com website. More information will be coming to you closer to the July 15th date.
3. CERTIFICATION FORMS FOR 2011-12. The new certification form is not ready yet, but will be within the next couple of weeks. When it is, I will send you a copy. It is being redone, to hopefully make it clearer for you.
4. RULES MEETINGS. Remember--ALL head coaches must attend a Rules meeting--if a school has multiple head coaches, all of them must attend. This is for all coaches, not just certified ones.
5. CERTIFICATION DEADLINES Remember if you don't want to be fined
$35, your Fall Certification form must be in by Sept. 1st. If, however,
you have a game before Sept. 1st, you cannot stunt until your form has
been sent in--so if your first games are August 27th, send in your form
before then. Make sure you:
a. have your administrator sign it
b. send in the certification fee along with the form
(your rules meeting does not have to be completed before Sept. 1st however)
6. CERTIFICATION CLASSES If you are not certified, and want to take the cert. class, I have attached a registration form. The July one is in conjunction with the State Coaches Convention, and the September one is in Grand Forks, in conjunction with Coaches Day. Be sure to pre-register, as materials must be ordered.
7. CAMPS If you are planning on being a certified team (stunting
above waist high), you must attend a UCA or NCA camp. (these are the 2
that are available in ND--if you are going out of state, check to see if
that company is ok for certification). Many, many people have not yet
registered for camp. It would be a good idea to do this soon. The camp
companies plan their instructors by the number registered at camps--so
if you want more personalized instruction, get your registrations in
soon. The Hillsboro camp is very soon--June 8-10--with others in Park
River, St. John, Bismarck and Bishop Ryan.
