Debate Tournament Information

2009 State Debate

State Debate will be held at Fargo South High School on February 6 & 7, 2009.  Check back for tournament information at a later date.

2008 State Debate Results

The 95th Annual North Dakota High School Activities Association Debate Tournament was held at Fargo Shanley High School on Friday and Saturday, February 1 & 2, 2008.

Fargo South won the team championship followed by Fargo Shanley in second place.

The coach of the year as elected by her peers is Melissa Marek-Donahue of Fargo Shanley.

Individual placewinners in each division are as follows:

Open Policy Debate 1st place –John Kenney and Kristin Vetter of Fargo Shanley. 2nd place –Dan Cho and David Karaz of Fargo Shanley. Semi Finalists - Beth Osman and Nathan Elness of Fargo South, and Amanda Burke and Sam Soper of Grand Forks Central. Quarter Finalists – Jessyca Attandsio and Heather Alvar of Grand Forks Central, and Cristina Lawrence and Jacob Dixon of Fargo Shanley, and Avi Rajender and Abhi Vaidya of Fargo South.

Speaker Awards Open Policy: 1st speaker Kristen Vetter of Fargo Shanley, 2nd speaker –John Kenney of Fargo Shanley, and tied for 3rd speakers – Amanda Burke of Grand Forks Central, and David Karaz of Fargo Shanley

Novice Policy – 1st –Alicia Schroeder and Andrea Crary of West Fargo. 2nd place –Christy Smith and Max Tolstedt of Fargo Shanley. Semi Finalists – Elizabeth Eiler and Kaitlin Ford of Fargo South, Joe Kalka and Chris Leopold of Grand Forks Central. Quarter Finalists – Brooke Solberg and Claire Carlson of Grand Forks Red River, and Mike Dancer and Matthew Donahue of Fargo Shanley.

Speaker Awards Novice Policy: 1st speaker –Christy Smith of Fargo Shanley, 2nd speaker –Max Tolstedt of Fargo Shanley, 3rd speaker-Alicia Schroeder of West Fargo, 4th speaker-Andrea Crary of West Fargo.

Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 1st place – Jeff Fricker of Fargo South, 2nd place – Phoebe Strom of Fargo North. Semi Finalists – Hedan Zeng of Grand Forks Red River, and Ian Yocum of Fargo South. Quarter Finalists – Mason Lende of Fargo Shanley, Bill Restemayer of Fargo Shanley, Adeeti Katti of Fargo North, and Chris Krapu of Valley City.

Junior Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 1st Place –Nora Hyde of Fargo South, 2nd place – Thom Beneke of Fargo South, Semi Finalists – Jennifer Vetter of Fargo Shanley, and Teagan Lende of Fargo Shanley. Quarter Finalists – Nick Traynor of Fargo Shanley, Dillon Hofsommer of Fargo South, Siri Johnson of Fargo South, and Andrew Leizens of Grand Forks Central.

Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 1st place–Jon Lipp of Fargo Shanley, 2nd place – Philip Thelen of Fargo Shanley, Semi Finalists – Jared Gilmore of Fargo North, and Catherine Cho of Fargo South. Quarter Finalists – Lianna Hansen of Central Cass, Griffin Morris of Fargo Shanley, Patrick Lin of Fargo South, and Anjali Lall of Fargo South.

Varsity Public Forum Debate: 1st Place – Matthew Budke and John Mitzel of Fargo South. 2nd place – Naveena Lall and Sebastian Hull of Fargo South. Semi Finalists – Amanda Berg and Rachael Gay of Fargo South, and Sam Ewen and Marcus Geffre of MPCG. Quarter Finalists – Hannah Thoreson and Kate Thoreson of MPCG, Amanda Kalka and Logan McManus of Grand Forks Central, Erika Berger and Ashley Barrios of Mandan, and Sami Wagner and Colton Kling of Bismarck.
