Football Bulletin: 9/19/09
1. Late hits:
a. Coaches – Kids can play hard until the ball is dead by rule, not “the whistle”
b. Officials – Keep your eyes on players in vulnerable positions until action ends and be good dead ball officials
2. Blocking below the waist:
a. Coaches – Please re-enforce with your players the once the ball leaves the free blocking zone, the zone disintegrates, there can be no initial contact below the waist by the offense or DEFENSE
b. Officials – Review the blocking rule definitions and related rules. To “get” these dangerous blocks, you need to follow your pre-snap routine, your sequence of reads and focus on our primary responsibility while watching other action peripherally.
3. Sidelines
a. Coaches and officials – Please take good care of your sidelines
The aforementioned topics concern the safety of all so it is imperative that all involved take heed and do their best to protect players, coaches and officials from dangerous/illegal situations.
