2008-09 Fine Arts Judge Information
October 08, 2008
This information is for current and prospective judges. NDHSAA is looking to complete database files and may need information from you
Thank you for your interest in judging Fine Arts Contests in North Dakota!
Many are being sent this notice because of incomplete files at NDHSAA. In taking this position, I have found that some of the judge lists are partial or out-of-date. You are not on the list for which you requested a role. Please look at the following information in the discipline for which you've requested. We need to get your information on file.
Please take time to review the below and respond accordingly. In addition to the below, judges must create/amend their account in MVP and request a judging role (some will request more than 1).
Judges who were listed as certified last year may remain so by enrolling in our MVP system. Other judges will need to take an online test or submit a brief statement of qualifications for file.
Please do not hesitate to call (701-845-3953) or email Brian Bubach with any questions. Thank you in advance for your help and for your interest and dedication to our activities:
Speech Judge-Per 2008-09 Handbook, p. 13 rule 6: "Judges should be certified and at least 3rd year college students with a major in the areas of speech-theatre-public address or faculty members teaching in these areas on the college or high school level and not having contestants entered in the judged events." Individuals whose names do not appear on the certified list will need to take the speech judge test online (click here for speech judge test).
Drama Judge-per 2008-09 Handbook, p. 40 rule 2: "Judges hired for any NDHSAA sponsored contest/festival should have at least a minor in theatre arts and/or five years of judging experience." If you have requested to be a play judge, please email Brian Bubach with a brief statement of your education or judging qualifications. This can be done with 3-4 bullets. Please also include your school and contact phone number in case additional information is needed.
Debate Judge-Handbook, p. 66 rule 11: "Judge Certification: Judges are requested to certify, but those faculty judges with two years or more years of North Dakota State Tournament judging experience are exempt. If a person is hired by the NDHSAA and is not certified or exempted, they will receive a 25 percent reduction in judging fees." Individuals whose names do not appear on the certified list will need to take the debate test online (click here for debate judge test). This is the only test on file--updates to this testing may be anticipated through the advisory process.
Congress Judge-The 2008-09 Handbook does not specifically address congress judges. For approval of this role, please email Brian Bubach with a brief statement of your education or judging qualifications. This can be done with 3-4 bullets. Please also include your school and contact phone number in case additional information is needed.
Music-If not listed, music judges must attend a judge certification meeting. These will be 5p on the night of the rules clinics or by other arrangement. If you wish to do a 5p meeting prior to the rules clinic, please email Brian Bubach. I may not be on site at 5:00p unless I know there will be potential judges there.
Thank you again for your understanding and energy that you invest in North Dakota Fine Arts Activities.
